Choosing The Right Venue
Selecting the perfect venue is crucial for a memorable sangeet. Look for a space that can accommodate your guest list comfortably while providing ample room for performances and dancing. An open-air garden or a spacious banquet hall with excellent acoustics often make fantastic choices to host a lively and energetic event. Since this event is less formal than the reception, you can opt for food stations or an international style buffet with your favorite foods.
Craft Your Timeline
Traditionally, a Sangeet event will have a mix of dance performances, a few speeches, and open dancing. Plan a schedule and share it with anyone who will be part of the evening entertainment. Make sure you leave extra buffer room for mic transitions, dancers arriving and leaving the dance floor, and applause after each item. Once you know how long the entertainment portion of your event will be, build other events into your timeline such as when food and/or bar opens and closes, guest arrival and departure times, and when dessert is served.
Think About Design
Flowers are beautiful, but we’ve seen many couples plan a Sangeet without any florals at all! This event is usually very vibrant, so you can also incorporate twinkling fairy lights, pillows, lanterns, colorful draping, and photos. Some of our favorite Sangeet ideas include a bangle bar that doubles as a guest favor, colorful wrapped dance floors, and decorative umbrellas.
Consider Adding Entertainment
It is popular to hire a henna artist for a Sangeet event. If you’re thinking about hiring one, ask how long it takes to do a hand so you can decide how many artists you’ll need. You will want to set up a space with tables and chairs or a lounge area for your artists to work. If budget allows, you could also consider other fun options like a live painter, a poem writer or a fun food vendor!
