If you’ve recently been asked to be a part of a wedding, you may be wondering what the wedding party is expected to pay for. Every couple does things differently, but here is what we usually see.

Wedding day attire

Unless you have been told otherwise, expect to purchase your own attire for wedding day. This is usually the dress or suit, but may also include shoes, belt, jewelry, or hair accessories. Depending on what you’ve been told to wear, look into options for purchasing or renting!
Hair and Makeup

Sometimes you’ll be given the choice to do your own hair and makeup or pay for professional services. If you haven’t been told it will be covered, expect to pay for your own hair and makeup services including tip.
Some bachelor(ette) party expenses

If the party takes place out of town, you don’t need to cover the bride or groom’s hotel and flight. It is always a kind gesture though to cover the bride or groom’s meals or drinks for the weekend. An alternative is for the wedding party to chip in for a nice gift for the VIP to enjoy during the party. Remember, every budget is different and a small gesture goes a long way.
Transportation and Lodging

Even though you’re a part of the wedding party, you will still be expected to pay for your own hotel and transportation to arrive to the venue unless the couple is covering those expenses. For destination weddings, the couple will usually set up a room block with discounted hotel rooms for you to book through.
Gifts

Gifts are handled a little bit differently at each wedding. Most times we see members of the wedding party will still give a wedding gift to the couple. Additional events you may want to give at include the wedding shower, engagement party, and sometimes rehearsal dinner night.
